Truth Without Compromise

The Kingdom Light – Episode 1096

Folks, I’m gonna keep on saying it because it’s true: We have never been any closer to the end than we are now. That’s not an empty platitude, either. We’re so close to Jesus coming back now, I can feel it. There’s something very perceptible, we can sense things are about to happen quickly. At the beginning of 2024, I called this the year of revelation, sensing a lot of things would be revealed. Now the book of Revelation seems to be unfolding in front of us, and we need to be prepared for what’s ahead.

What I want to talk about today is the plethora of distractions out there which are meant to hide the truth. Unfortunately, a lot of the current deception is happening within the church itself, as it has become infested with false teaching and idolatry. It’s not just a problem of watered-down Christianity, it’s blatantly fake Christianity. The message of the gospel has been convoluted with worldly precepts, excusing sinful behavior rather than teaching the need for forgiveness.

False teachers ignore the simplicity of the gospel. They allow societal hot topics to complicate things. I’ll explain what I mean. Here’s how simple and uncomplicated the gospel message is: sin is the unholy stuff we do that separates us from God, and Jesus is the only way back to God. Put another way, sin is the disease and Christ is the cure. Or how I like to put it, sin is the cancer while Jesus is the answer. Simple. We need Jesus. He’s our path of forgiveness and redemption, and nothing else can do that. Only Him.

The problem people run into is not wanting to admit something is sin. The societal hot topics I mentioned a minute ago are those controversial issues like homosexuality, abortion, etc. You know, the stuff that many in the church today want to make allowance for. But the fact is, it is society that dictates what is or isn’t a hot topic. What the church has done – in order to not offend certain people – is compromised the principles of Christianity.

Forget for a moment that homosexuality is a hot topic. That’s not the issue. The Bible clearly lists it among a list of unnatural and abhorrent behaviors to be avoided. Beastiality is listed right along with it, and most people agree that’s disgusting and wrong. But it’s also listed along with fornication and adultery. Why doesn’t society make those hot topics? Well why would they? These are largely ignored already by the church. Let’s take a closer look at this.

Fornication is sex before marriage. Now I’m not going to ask anybody to raise their hands, but I know for certain that a lot of us have been guilty of this one. I openly acknowledge that I committed this particular sin several times in the past. I knew it was wrong, but I did it anyway. Why? I let my flesh and hormonal impulses override my sense of right and wrong. And let’s be honest here, I figured I’d ask for God’s forgiveness afterwards.

That attitude toward sin is dangerous, and it’s exactly why we tend to ignore certain sins in the church. It’s why some Christians may rail against homosexuality, all the while ignoring their own sexual sin. Jesus said a man who looks lustfully at a woman has already committed sin in his heart. It’s all sin. One is not worse than the other. It’s all equally perverse. And sinful actions have undesirable consequences.

Adultery is sex with someone other than your spouse. Again, do we usually place this sin on equal footing as other sins? We like to think there are different levels and severity of sin, but in reality, any and all sin is capable of destroying your life if you let yourself be ruled by it. We need to stop allowing sin of any kind to gain a foothold in our lives. We have access to God-given power over sin if we’d just use it.

We all have a sinful nature – a tendency or predisposition to sin. But we are called to hold ourselves to a higher standard out of love and respect for the One who redeemed us. It is His faithfulness to us that ought to make us desire to stay faithful to Him. Having a tendency to engage in sin doesn’t mean that we have to entertain that urge to sin. We can rebuke it and rise above it through Christ, regardless of what that sin is. This is what we should be teaching people.

Sadly, there are a lot of churches today that compromise the gospel message to accommodate societal norms. It is the church itself that should be helping to shape and guide our society, rather than the other way around. Yet we still let what society thinks influence our theology. So we end up with a wishy-washy message that favors people’s feelings over the actual truth of God’s word. This nullifies any meaningful influence of the church and gives people zero guidance for dealing with life’s trials.

Don’t shy away from the truth! Never let social acceptance override biblical virtue. We can’t make excuses for sin just because it’s uncomfortable to speak truth to it. And we can’t get sucked into the lie that preaching against sin is somehow hateful. Truth, even when uncomfortable, must be spoken out of love for people and concern for their eternal destiny. And it’s not being judgmental to point out destructive behavior, which is what sin is. It’s actually the caring thing, the loving thing, and the right thing to do.

So let’s keep obliterating the lies that lead people astray, and let’s boldly and lovingly give people the truth without compromise!

I am a blood-bought saint of God, saved by His amazing Grace! God called me to start Great Commission Ministries online in June of 2011, and that began as a video series called "The GC." After 7 seasons of that web-series, I felt led to expand the ministry to blogs as well as a new video series I called "67 seconds of Encouragement." Eventually, the blogs became a podcast. And the ministry continues to grow from that, currently in the form of The Kingdom Light podcast. My prayer is that this ministry brings hope and encouragement to everyone who finds it. Please share it with others and help spread the Good News of Christ!
